This is what Capt. Scooby had to report for the week ending August 13. The water temperature was 90 degrees and the water level was 174.4 and dropping.
Brian and Robin Elliott came up to fish with Capt. Steve. Capt. Steve and Brian got underway before daybreak. They arrived at the first fishing spot, waiting for the first morning light to make the first cast (which was under the Cormorant bird roost). Capt. Steve hooked up Brian with a fresh shrimp on a 2/0 J-hook, 18” leader under a slip bobber cork. Brian picked up eight whisker faces from 1 ½ to 3 pounds. Now that the Capt. got Brian’s swinging arm ready, he wanted to see Brian tangle with a bid ole summer bass!! The Capt. put the Gatortail on plane heading to the Promise Land in the Back Country of Toledo Bend. Brian was using a Mudfish custom rod 7’2” with 17 lb. mono and a Stanley Ribbit Frog over the top of the grass. Brian finally completed his limit of bass after hits, swings and misses for an awesome morning.
On the way back to the marina, Capt. Steve wanted to give Brian a tour of the local wildlife. They stopped by an Osprey’s nest and bird sanctuary nesting area. We took our catch and release photos and that completed the trip.
So the next day before they went home, Capt. Steve took Brian and Robin out for another back country tour.
