This is what Capt. Scooby had to report for the week ending 4/29/17. The water temperature was 74 degrees. The water was a little off color due to rain earlier in the week.
Dr. Bill S. from Coldspring, TX came up again and brought his wife Tamara to experience the Mudfish Adventure. This was her first guided bass trip on Lake Toledo Bend on Friday evening. The fishing was so good that they had a triple hook up of bass that evening. This has never happened before because Capt. Scooby guides his parties, he doesn’t hold a stick but they insisted so of course, he picked up his rod and made it a triple.
They were using these baits on a 1/0 wacky hook with no weight added and a EWG 2/0 worm hook with a quarter ounce lead bullet weight:
- Sinko’s Wacky style rigging (Wacky Worm).
- Zoom Speed Craws, June Bug, White, Watermelon Red – it didn’t matter the fish were biting everything around them!
- Trick worm, colors – White, Watermelon Red and Watermelon Candy.
Mother Nature told Capt. Scooby the fish are nervous so catch them while you can. In the next 24 hours the lake rose five inches (lake level 171.1). Toledo Bend had a 4-5 inch rain overnight and five Tornado’s touched down in the Canton area of East Texas. That night after the bad weather came through, the air temperature dropped 20 degrees and the water temperature dropped eight degrees in the back country. So we probably won’t have a report next week due to run off and muddy waters.
Stay tuned for the next adventure. Reminder, Capt. Scooby enjoys taking couples out and teaching them how to fish, so ladies bring your husband and Capt. Scooby will teach him how to fish!
